Ornamental blacksmith, David Burtt, has been refining his craft since the age of fifteen. David holds degrees in psychology and law, and was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1989. He practiced law for many years and has also worked as a legal consultant for a high-tech start-up, a software testing coordinator, and an Americans with Disabilities Act compliance coordinator for a large hospital. In 2000 he merged his calling and career and became a full time blacksmith.

David splits his time between commissioned work and teaching. He has taught and assisted at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, in Deer Isle, Maine; the Penland School of Crafts, in Penland, North Carolina; and currently teaches at the Maine College of Art, in Portland, Maine.

He has worked on reproduction and restoration projects for the Maine Historical Society's Wadsworth Longfellow House, as well as the McClellan-Sweat House at  Museum of Art, both in Portland Maine.

David has been a member of the Artist-Blacksmith Association of North America (ABANA) since 1994.
