Introduction to Blacksmithing    

Saturday and Sunday, March  26 & 27, 2022  8:30a  – 5:00p.

For beginners interested in learning fundamental traditional blacksmithing techniques. This introductory class will provide instruction and hands-on learning the fundamentals of forging hot steel.  The tools and foundational techniques of forging will be explained and demonstrated leaving ample class time for student practice with instructor oversight and assistance.

Bushcraft Knives

Saturday and Sunday, April  2 & 4, 2022  8:30a  – 5:00p

Hand forge a primitive/bushcraft utility knife suited for versatile outdoor use.  Basic knife forging, heat treating, handle fitting, and sharpening will be covered. This is a time intensive class.  It is recommended that the student have some prior forging experience if they wish to finish a knife blade.  For those beginners and less experienced, this class is suited as an introduction provided the student understands that their knife might not be completed during the weekend time period allotted.

Forging a Small Hatchet

Saturday and Sunday, April 16 & 17, 2022 8:30 a - 5:00p

During this weekend intensive, students will learn to forge, finish, and sharpen either a punched-eye or forge-welded hatchet head.  Handle fitting will be covered if time allows.

Flat- Jaw and Box-Jaw Tongs

Saturday and Sunday, April 23 & 24, 2022 8:30 a - 5:00p

Tooling your own shop? Learn to forge flat-jaw and box-jaw tongs using traditional forging methods.  This is a beginner/intermediate level class.

Decorative Shelf Brackets

Saturday and Sunday, May 7 & 8, 2022 8:30 a - 5:00p  

Students will learn to layout, forge, and assemble decorative shelf brackets, adding their own design modifications.  Traditional forging of frame, decorative elements, and joinery will be explained and demonstrated.
