Hand forged reproduction 18th-Century North America belt hatchet.  Head is hand-forged measuring 5-3/4 inches long.  Higher carbon steel bit is forge welded into the cutting edge, which edge is heat treated.  The short poll is forge butt welded to the head, and is 1-1/2 inches tall.  This butt-welded poll extension is a more uniquely replicated feature for which original examples have been found.

The handle is hand hewn hickory measuring 16 inches from the top of the axe head. It is rubbed with linseed oil  The head is hung with a hickory wedge, and comes with a spare forged steel wedge for field tightening, if ever needed.
