Hand forged reproduction 18th-Century North America belt axe.  Head is hand-forged measuring 6 inches long. Hight of axe head is 2 inches at the poll.  High carbon steel bit is forge welded into the cutting edge, which edge is heat treated.  The short poll is forge butt welded to the head.  This is a more uniquely replicated feature for which original examples have been found. In this example, the forge-welded material is on the inside of wrapped blade, against the handle.

The stained handle is hand hewn hickory measuring 15-1/4 inches from the top of the axe head.  The head is hung with a hickory wedge, and comes with a spare forged steel wedge for field tightening, if ever needed.
